I'm a simple man. If I get laid every time I see a particular artist perform then I am certainly going to go to every show I can when they come to town. And yes this would even include the Spin Doctors if this happened to be that band. But thankfully I've never had to knock boots (keeping with the 90's theme here) to Little Ms Can't Be Wrong. The artist I am referring to is the wig wearing hip hop soulstress from Dallas who is Andre 3000's baby momma otherwise know as Erykah Badu. So when I saw her tickets go on sale I bought them the second they were available. If you think that RnB shows are boring, well then you'd be right, But Badu is not your typical soul artist. She's a fairly decent dj as well and at the beginning and even in the middle of each show she gets the party going by dropping awesome old school hip hop beats and incorporates them in her already heavily hip hop influenced music. The highlights of the show outside of her rocking the huge Joe Namath mink coat were her performances of Back In the Day followed by an extended version of Danger. Check those songs out if you don't know much about Ms Badu.

Quick cool story. I was talking to my buddy DJ Chicken George right before the show and we were just basically catching up. I noticed that he had this badge around his neck but didnt think twice about it until 20 minutes later when I saw Badu's band take the stage and he was part of the freaking band! He was dj'ing for her! Dammit! Why didn't he tell me? This couldve been my shot to be her third baby daddy! I mean after Common it has to be all up hill right? I kid I kid but not really.
ACL turned out to be a blast! Weezer was awesome as usual, playing nothing but hits and 5 songs from the Blue Album. They were the highlight of Day 1. The Roots were good as usual although just when I write "they know what they're doing so don't expect a stupid Paradise City cover with lame freestyling" they play Sweet Child of Mine with a pseudo freestyle. So sad. Crystal Castles put on one of the best shows I've seen at ACL as I was a dancing fool at their show but the highlight of the entire festival had to be Iggy and the Stooges. Iggy owned that crowd, especially when he scared the security shitless as he said "I'm lonely. Fuck it! Bum rush the stage and get up here with me!" This was followed by 30 or so peeps running on stage and rocking out with him. I swear that he and Mr Burns are on the same diet because he is in better shape than 90% of the people that were there to see him. Although the crowning moment had to belong to his 195 year old bassist who could barely walk. The second he picked up his guitar he started dry humping the speakers... for like a long time! It was creepy, weird, and awesome all at the same time! Thanks ACL, I will definitely be back!
Ok so on to the new artist of the day. I haven't written about Kendrick Lamar because sadly it took a red headed teenager from Indiana to tell me about him. Plus when I heard his side project Black Hippy, I wasn't blown away but that was mainly because of the other scrubs in the group although Jay Rock is legit. The great thing about Lamar is that he brings back legitimacy to West Coast rap. He has a smooth flow that mixes perfectly with the laid back beats of the West. He isn't deep like Big KRIT but he also isn't another 2 Chainz who I swear never made it past the 6th grade. So this is perfect road trip or just rolling around the neighborhood sipping on 32 ounce Bud Ice music. His highlights are The Recipe with Dr Dre, A.D.H.D., and Swimming Pools. He has a ton of compilations too but just get started here. The fact that he can sound like a higher pitched Ma$e at times almost made me drop his rating to weak but after months of thinking about it, I'll give him slightly FRESH!

And yes my streak ended with this show. But that's another story,
